It was the perfect job, for me, anyway. Just wandering around the countryside, with my motley crew of terriers following along. Helping people I meet along the way, teaching them how to work with their pets and other animals rather than commanding and fighting them, passing on all I learned from my nurseryman grandfather about cohabitating with and encouraging plant life, and generally helping them discover how to take care of them and theirs. In return they replenished my stores, provided shelter for my wife and I, and continually reinforced my faith in the basic goodness of humanity.
