Restaurant Games

Sarah washed and dried her hands, then headed back to her table. Except it wasn’t there anymore! Sarah looked around in bewilderment. Eventually shouts of "Sarah!" filtered through her confusion and helped her locate her friends, who were on the other side of the restaurant. "I am sure it was here!" she said to herself as she made her way over to rejoin her friends. "I remember the view!"

"Lost already, Sarah?" Benjamin joshed as Sarah sat down. Her geographic cluelessness was well known and a constant source of amusement among her friends. Even so, she had never gotten lost at breakfast before!

"Oh shush" Matt said. "This time it isn’t Sarah’s fault, and you know it." He turned to Sarah. "Watch the crowd awhile and you will understand."

Sarah did as Matt instructed. People came in. People left. People went to the restroom; their table was still there when they returned.

Sarah turned back to Matt. "What am I looking for?" she asked.

"Patience" he replied.

Sarah went back to watching the crowd. When a large group entered Matt tapped her shoulder. "Now watch carefully" he said.

Sarah stared at the group. Nothing. She looked back at Matt, intending to ask him for more information, and noticed that he was looking all over the restaurant.

Suddenly he grabbed her arm. "Over there!" he exclaimed, pointing back towards the bathroom.

Sarah looked where Matt was pointing; she didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. She started to turn back to him. Before she got far, however, Betty pulled her face back to the far corner. And she saw it.

"What the..." she trailed off in amazement. The tables were moving! People were eating and chatting gaily while their tables rearranged themselves, like the squares in that puzzle where the idea is to unscramble a picture.

Everybody laughed at the expression on Sarah’s face.

"Do you want to see how it works?" Matt asked.
