Misplaced Parking Lot

Today I happened upon a parking lot - paved, with lights and painted parking spaces and everything - with no entrance and no exit! It was just a square of pavement out in the middle of a field, with no sign of any inlet or outlet having ever existed. But wait, there's more: a decades-old tree was smack dab in the middle, directly in a driving lane between two rows of parking spots. Either this lot had been here a *really* long time, or it was built around this tree and unusable parking spots were painted on!
