My wife's left foot is a half size different from her right foot. No matter what shoe size she picks, one foot or the other is unhappy - either cramped, or swimming around. I know other people in a similar predicament. Ideal would be a shoe store where a person could buy shoes singly, rather than in pairs. My wife could purchase differently sized shoes for her differently sized feet. The goof who lost his shoe to a pile of wet cement could replace just that one shoe. Amputees could get just the one shoe they need. The quirky artist could buy shoes that don't match on purpose. Etc etc.
Determining how many of which shoe for which foot to stock could be a challenge. If you bought standard pairs of shoes and sold them individually, your stock might become unbalanced. One solution would be to play this up: celebrate the unmatchedness of it all, and supply stickers and markers and other crafty things for people to use to customize their shoes. Or play to the rebels who are tired of having their shoes match. The possibilities are endless!
